Best Craft Beer Pubs and Bars in Adelaide 2026 | The Suburban Brew
Posted on
Adelaide's craft beer scene is better than most people outside SA realise. Over the past decade, a strong network of independent breweries has spread across the city and its surrounds — from the Adelaide Hills to the Barossa Valley to the inner suburbs. If you know where to look, you can drink exceptionally well without leaving Adelaide.
This guide covers the best craft beer pubs, bars and taprooms in Adelaide in 2026, with a focus on independent venues that brew their own or pour local.
What makes a good craft beer pub in Adelaide?
The best craft beer venues in Adelaide have a few things in common. They brew their own beer or prioritise local and independent taps over big corporate brands. They have knowledgeable staff who can actually tell you what's in the glass. They're comfortable to spend time in — not too loud, not too precious, not trying too hard. And they give you a reason to come back regularly, whether that's a rotating tap list, weekly events or decent food.
Adelaide's inner suburbs have quietly built one of the better collections of independent brewery taprooms in Australia. Here's where to start.
The Suburban Brew — Glynde and Goodwood
The Suburban Brew runs two of Adelaide's best independent craft beer taprooms: the Glynde Brewery and Taproom in Adelaide's inner east, and the original Goodwood Taproom in the inner south.
The Glynde venue is the production brewery — a 200-person taproom built into a converted warehouse at 26-30 Provident Avenue, Glynde SA 5070. It's one of the better pub spaces in the inner east of Adelaide: high ceilings, a proper bar, rotating food trucks and a kids' play area. Weekly trivia on Thursdays, food trucks every week and a monthly events calendar covering live music, markets and community events.
The Goodwood Taproom at 96 Goodwood Road is the original venue, open since 2020 and now home to Reggie's Detroit-style pizza operating from the front. It's a more stripped-back, neighbourhood pub feel — relaxed, comfortable and easy to spend several hours in. Wednesday nights run Survey Says, a gameshow-style trivia event that draws a good crowd.
Both venues pour the full Suburban Brew core range plus seasonal and limited releases from the Glynde brewhouse. Dog friendly at Glynde, family friendly at both.
Open Wednesday through Sunday at both venues. Bookings available online.
What to look for in Adelaide's craft beer scene
Adelaide's independent brewing scene covers a wide range of styles. A few things worth knowing if you're new to it:
South Australian craft breweries tend to brew well across lagers and session beers — styles that get less attention nationally but are genuinely hard to get right. If you're used to being handed an aggressively hopped IPA everywhere you go, Adelaide's taprooms are a good place to recalibrate.
The Barossa Valley and Adelaide Hills both have strong brewing cultures with venues worth visiting as a day trip — Western Ridge Brewing in the Barossa and Uraidla Brewery in the Hills are both worth the drive.
For inner-city drinking, the inner east and inner south of Adelaide are the strongest areas for independent taprooms. Both The Suburban Brew venues sit in these areas, within easy reach of Norwood, Unley and the CBD.
Why independent craft beer matters in Adelaide
Independent breweries in SA operate without the backing of major corporate brewing groups. That means the beer is made by the people pouring it, the money stays local, and the range reflects what the brewer actually wants to make rather than what a marketing department approved. Every pint at an independent Adelaide brewery is a direct vote for the kind of local culture worth keeping.
Adelaide's inner east and inner south are both better places to live because venues like The Suburban Brew exist in them. That's not marketing — it's just true.
